Students from Dalton International School were inspired to make a difference after visiting the Getu Valley in Guizhou, one of the poorest areas in China, on a school trip with Terratribes. Terratribes partnered with the Beijing Dalton Academy Charity, The Bridge, to reach out and provide an experience of a lifetime for a group of Getu Valley students, identified by their administrators to be the most in need.
After a joint fundraising drive, Dalton and Terratribes raised over 40K RMB to put towards to a trip, bringing a group of 18 students from their home in Guizhou to the Guilin, Guangxi area.
The trip was designed as an opportunity to broaden the students horizons by visiting a new place, grow through experiential education and have fun! Throughout the trip our staff mentored the students about the importance of continuing their education and setting goals for their future. Terratribes guides led the students through 6 days of activities: climbing, camping, zip-lining, abseiling, bamboo rafting, and visiting an amusement park. The outdoor activities were designed to challenge the students, put them outside of their comfort zone, and help them work together as a team to accomplish goals.
This trip was an experience to always remember for all the people that came together: the Beijing Dalton Academy students, Terratribes staff, and the Getu Valley community that participated. After the success of this program, we are more committed than ever to work together with out clients to serve our local communities and make a difference.
